Title I Academic Achievement Award
Glenview Elementary School was recognized by State Superintendent
of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell for its Academic Achievement.
April 16 – 17, 2007, Glenview Principal, Deitra Atkins,
attended the No Child Left Behind State Title I Conference, Building
Capacity for Excellence, which was held at the Hilton Orange County/Costa
Mesa Hotel in Costa Mesa, California.
California’s awards program is designed to identify and
honor Title I schools (including charter schools receiving title
I funds) that demonstrate success in making adequate yearly progress
(API) and doubling their Academic Performance Index (API) growth
for two consecutive years. In addition, California requires Title
I achieving schools to meet a designated median API score in both
English-language arts and mathematics.
While at the conference, our principal attended informative workshops
were presented, ranging from “Moving Up: The Elevator to
Student Achievement” to “Youth, Family, and Community
Connection: A System to Connect Schools and Community.”
