Authentic. Transparent. Catalyst. When combined, these three
words incite people to change. Also when combined, they describe author/speaker
Chiquita Lockley, a woman who presents realistic lifestyle options to those who
are considering or practicing celibacy. Having worked with youths for over
ten years, Chiquita has taken practical advice, coupled with first hand experience,
biological facts, and biblical truths to present a road map for abstinence and
celibacy to women both young and young at heart.
Having received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Spelman College and
a Master of Arts Degree in Film Studies from Emory University, Chiquita went
on to serve as Director of a celebrity charity geared towards enhancing the lives
of youths. While acting in this capacity, she implemented programs and
events benefitting organizations such as the Atlanta Union Mission, the Boys
and Girls Club, the United Way, and the Hosea Williams Feed the Hungry Program-
even being a guest on Hosea Williams’ locally acclaimed talk show during his
lifetime. Chiquita has also shared her time and expertise with charitable
organizations including Hands On Atlanta, Habitat for Humanity, Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, and Project Destiny- an outreach initiative geared towards re-routing
troubled youths and empowering their families through education. Chiquita’s
level of service and commitment to others even prompted Georgia Secretary of
State, Cathy Cox, to recognize her as a Georgia Goodwill Ambassador.
Passionate about music and the arts, Chiquita served as Event Producer for the
first three installmets of Gospel Dream, a singing competition that received
record-breaking ratings on Black Entertainment Television (BET). She also
worked diligently as part of the Sponsorship Activation Team for Essence Music
Festival in New Orleans.
While all of Chiquita’s activities are important to her, her service to her church
family- New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia- is closest
to her heart. She has been active in the Worship & Arts department
for over seven years, singing in various choirs, including the Praise Team where
she is a Worship Leader. She has also served in the Events Department,
assisting in the women’s ministry Cancer Walk, as well as other events and conferences.
For the past five years, Chiquita has worked with the teen choir as an adult
advisor, a role that allowed her to travel to Kenya, East Africa to provide humanitarian
support. It is from the experience of working with this group of youths
that the book, V Is For Virgin, was birthed. Her book is a roadmap to help
women remain true to themsleves and to their purpose, as they pursue a lifestyle
of celibacy.
Like the author, V Is For Virgin is Authentic. It is Transparent.
And it is definitely a Catalyst for change.
